Physical Education

Physical Education teachers spend their working lives taking groups to play matches, participate in athletic competitions, and on outdoor walking and climbing activities. There would appear to be little time for any extra visits, and yet P.E. staff find time to take groups to a variety of venues.

Visits by P.E. and Games teachers are, of course, mainly to sporting venues – either as participants or spectators. Some venues are iconic, such as Wembley, Cardiff Arms Park, Lord's, Twickenham or Old Trafford, but the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum has its adherents, as do the British Golf Museum at St Andrews, the National Football Museum in Manchester and the Olympic Park, London.

But for something a bit different some schools visit the National Clay Shooting Centre at Woking, the National Motorcycle Museum just off junction 6 of the M42, the National Badminton Museum in Milton Keynes, or the Archery Museum at the University of Manchester, or the various sailing centres around our coast.

The Venturers Norfolk Broads Cruise is an annual Christian holiday for anyone aged 12-17. We spend a week every Easter sailing the Norfolk Broads having a brilliant, energetic, challenging and totally unique time.

Our exceptional courses for young students follow the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme.The sheltered waters of the Kyles of Bute are an ideal environment.

Everyone's welcome at Westway, whether you’re trying out climbing for the first time or you’re an experienced climber training at an elite level.

The spectacular 25 metres by 25 metres swimming pool has a moveable floor to adjust the water level so various activities can take place at any one time. There's a tiered spectators seating area with 250 seats providing excellent viewing of the entire pool area. There’s also a 13 metres by 7 metres teaching pool for swimming lessons plus parent and baby sessions.

The Percy Community Centre was opened in 1991 to provide community facilities for the diverse communities of Bath and North East Somerset. The aims of the organisation are to provide a well-maintained, accessible community resource for other voluntary sector and community groups and to support the economic activities of individuals with a range of services.

Activities In Snowdonia provide adventurous activities to groups and individuals in Snowdonia, Anglesey and the surrounding area of North Wales.

Since 1992 Manor Adventure has been offering low cost, action packed family activity holidays and activity breaks during the summer school holidays, as well as residential activity courses for school children during term time in the UK and France.

The Wye Valley Canoe Centre sits on the banks of the River Wye four miles west of  Hay-on-Wye. We are located on the bridge at Glasbury and have a fleet of Canadian canoes, single kayaks and double kayaks. You can paddle for a few hours or a few days.

I have been involved with DofE for a long time, first many years ago as a participant, then trainer then assessor and now as an AAP. I hold the NGB awards of summer mountain leader, which lets me take people hillwalking in the UK when there isn`t any snow around, and SPA which covers single pitch rock climbing.
