Free CPD Opportunities from Parliament

Parliament’s Education Outreach teams run teacher development sessions in schools around the country and online, to help you inspire and engage your students in their political literacy lessons. The service provides training and support for trainee teachers and teachers of all political literacy related subjects.

Parliament’s Education Outreach team lead in school session covering both primary and secondary level. The workshops have a focus on practical methods of active learning, participation and engagement and can be tailored to meet your individual requirements. The courses are linked to citizenship and modern studies aspects of the curriculum and can be delivered in individual schools, clusters of schools or in partnership with the local authority. The sessions run for a full day, half day or as twilight sessions with a minimum of 10 attendees and are FREE!

  • The Language of Parliament and Democracy - how to help your students become more confident talking and writing about Parliament and Citizenship
  • Create the Debate - developing your students' debating skills
  • Elections and Voting - how to run a successful mock election
  • Active Citizenship - how to get your students involved
  • Parliamentary Process - the State Opening of Parliament, how a Bill becomes a law

You can join the Education Outreach team at the Houses of Parliament for a free one day seminar or a a tailored CPD sessions, see the programme here. A selected number of teacher placements are available throughout the academic year for current teachers or trainee teachers , find out more here. The service also offers a range of support and opportunities for trainee teachers.

There is a range of free online CPD training opportunities available this autumn. Accessible from your laptop you can expand your knowledge, access useful tools and resources, ask questions and share opinions with other teachers.

British schoolgirl assaulted on school trip to Iceland

A viral video shows a black girl being assaulted by a white woman in a corridor.

Police in Iceland are investigating after a British schoolgirl was slapped and chased by a tour guide in a hotel corridor.

The schoolgirl, 13, who attended Harris Girls’ Academy, was assaulted whilst on a school trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The incident occurred at Hotel Örk, Hveragerdi on 13th October.
