On 21st April 2017, Surrey Outdoor Learning & Development (SOLD) will be running their ‘Learning Beyond the Classroom’ Conference at High Ashurst Outdoor Education Centre. The conference aims to inspire and equip attendees with practical ideas and confidence to enable them to embed outdoor learning within the school curriculum.
Attendees are asked to select three practical workshops once booking has been confirmed. Workshops include ‘Developing your School Grounds for Outdoor Education’ which looks into how you can make the best use of your school’s existing outdoor space, with both practical and innovative ideas on where to begin. The ‘Jungle Gym’ workshop involves games, orienteering and activities to promote health and fitness alongside life lessons such as competitiveness and fair play. ‘Words in the Wilderness’ explores the words and literature that link strongly to both nature and its environment. ‘Messy Maths’ promotes the use of numbers and mathematics in a practical context; demonstrating simple exercises that can be completed on-site at school or in your local park.
Additionally, the conference gets involved with Learning Away’s #BrilliantResidentials campaign, with a workshop on how to make more of residential experiences using case studies and free resources from Learning Away.
A full list other workshops and further details on those listed above can be found here. Although the deadline for early bird discount has now passed, you can still book online here at a price of £100 per person.
After the conference, you may wish to flex your new found knowledge and skills by organising a learning outside the classroom experience. See HandsamSchoolTripAdvisor’s extensive information and help on planning school trips.
