Cambodia Visit for Falmouth Students

A group of Falmouth students left the comfort of their Cornish homes and traveled to Cambodia for a month to work on community projects.
The students spent the last two years fundraising for the trip. After three days in Phenom Penh, they went on to help repair a dam, build houses and toilets, renovate schools, water projects, reforestation of community forests and teach primary and secondary school children in a community school that is supported by Camps International. They also took part in a four day jungle trek in the Kulen National Park.
CAA Warns Teachers To Check Overseas Trips

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has warned teachers to check any overseas trips are ATOL protected before booking, to avoid losing up to £750 per student if the travel company ceases trading.
ATOL (the Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing) protects package trips and safeguards against parents being left out of pocket or have their children stranded abroad in the event of the travel operator going bust.
School Trips Cut Funding Dwindles and Costs Rise

In a survey by the Sutton Trust earlier this year, it was revealed that 43% of teachers had made cutbacks to trips and outings. The reasons given included the lack of support staff and chaperones, the prohibitive cost of coach hire and the cost of trips to parents.
“Free Passports and Trips Abroad” says Private School Principal

Melvyn Roffe, of George Watson’s College in Edinburgh, has urged the education secretary to fund lengthy foreign trips and lobby the Home Office to provide free passports.
Roffe believes that schoolchildren are becoming insular and self-obsessed and due to increasing travel costs and health and safety fears, many students don’t get the opportunity to travel.
Schoolboy Dies on End of Term Trip at Adventure Assault Course in Surrey

A 14 year old boy collapsed and died at the Camelot Events adventure site in Beare Green, Surrey just before 1pm, on Thursday, July 18th.
The boy was part of a group of teenagers, taking part in the assault course to celebrate the end of the school year.
The boy is understood to have suffered a cardiac arrest after attempting the muddy course.

British schoolgirl assaulted on school trip to Iceland
A viral video shows a black girl being assaulted by a white woman in a corridor.
Police in Iceland are investigating after a British schoolgirl was slapped and chased by a tour guide in a hotel corridor.
The schoolgirl, 13, who attended Harris Girls’ Academy, was assaulted whilst on a school trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The incident occurred at Hotel Örk, Hveragerdi on 13th October.
