New Child Safety on Farms Calendar Launched

New Child Safety on Farms Calendar Launched

The ‘Be Aware Kids’ child safety on farms 2015 calendar was launched in County Antrim, Northern Ireland on 3 December 2014.

The family planner entitled ‘Avoid Harm on the Farm’ features the winning entries from the 2014 ‘Be Aware Kids’ child safety on farms poster competition.

Health and Safety education

The Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers’ Association has called for health and safety education, particularly in relation to farms, to be included in the primary school curriculum following a recent child death on a Cork farm.

ICSA president Patrick Kent said no child should leave primary school ‘without an awareness of health and safety issues including farm safety and road safety’.

There are thousands of visits made safely to Farms and Farm parks every year in the UK, but safety must be considered to be paramount in any scenario when unpredictable animals and children are present. Briefings and awareness talks both before, during and after a visit are a great way for teachers to engage their students in understanding the dangers inherent in farm animals and no farms in general.

You can get hold of a copy of the calendar HERE.
