Get Outdoors for Wild About Gardens Week!

24th October – 30th October 2016 brings us the Wild About Gardens Week from the RHS, The Wildlife Trusts and Bat Conservation Trust. The Week is designed to encourage people to support wildlife in their gardens. Their belief is that making gardens and local green spaces more wildlife-friendly will support a wide range of species, including bats, who are the focus this year.

Get your pupils outside for a lesson next week to celebrate, either to your school’s dedicated garden area, or perhaps the school playing field if you don’t have one. The dedicated website for Wild About Gardens Week contains an array of resources to inspire you with ideas. Why not build a bee hotel ready to attract bees for fantastic observation opportunities in Spring, or start a bigger project to continue over a number of weeks, such as a bug mansion which could bring centipedes, frogs and hedgehogs to your outside space. Real life wildlife a matter of seconds or minutes from the classroom is a fantastic way to teach pupils about wildlife and conservation, whilst also getting them outside and active at the same time.

We hope you enjoy whatever you decide to do for Wild About Gardens Week, but remember that you can get pupils Learning Outside the Classroom all year round in many different ways! HandsamSchoolTripsAdvisor provides a wealth of ideas and venue details and we can also help you ensure your LOtC experiences are safe, with guidance and Handsam’s Trip Planning System
