How Much Do Parents Spend on School Trips?

According to price comparison website Idealo, 92% of parents spend up to £1,000 to supplement their children’s education and 6% spend over £1,000.

58% of parents in Sheffield agree that school trips are too expensive and 83% believe that the rules regarding taking children on family holidays during term time should be relaxed.

Labour and Prince Charles Vow to Support Creativity in Schools

Labour has pledged to put “creativity at the heart of the school curriculum” in a series of policy announcements that coincided with a gathering of artists, actors, teachers and arts leaders convened by Prince Charles to address the subject.

About 200 people, including Benedict Cumberbatch, Lenny Henry, Vivienne Westwood and Andrew Lloyd Webber were at the Royal Albert Hall to support a campaign to promote arts and creativity in schools.

Dad Creates VR World to Help Daughter

Craig Chaytor taught himself to make 360 ̊videos to help his daughter Imogen, who has Williams syndrome and experiences learning difficulties.

Craig stated that Imogen would often get “too distracted or too upset” when attempting her homework as a result of the syndrome, so he decided to “create a world where she can learn from because there’s no distraction because she’s so engaged in the VR”.

Teacher Banned After Claiming Extra Cash for School Trips

David Malengela, a languages teacher at St Peter’s School in Huntington, has been banned from teaching after claiming extra cash from parents for school trips.

The Teaching Regulation Agency’s professional conduct panel were told that Mr Malengela had asked parents for additional “behaviour deposits” and had also requested a payment of 20 euros per pupil just to board the coach.

Teenage Boy Spiked with Viagra by Fellow Pupil During School Trip

A 15-year-old boy was spiked with Viagra by another pupil while on a class trip to Berlin, Germany. The 16-year-old who was responsible received a two-day suspension, but the father of the victim has criticised this as an inadequate punishment for what is a criminal offence.

A viral video shows a black girl being assaulted by a white woman in a corridor.

Police in Iceland are investigating after a British schoolgirl was slapped and chased by a tour guide in a hotel corridor.

The schoolgirl, 13, who attended Harris Girls’ Academy, was assaulted whilst on a school trip to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. The incident occurred at Hotel Örk, Hveragerdi on 13th October.
