David Malengela, a languages teacher at St Peter’s School in Huntington, has been banned from teaching after claiming extra cash from parents for school trips.
The Teaching Regulation Agency’s professional conduct panel were told that Mr Malengela had asked parents for additional “behaviour deposits” and had also requested a payment of 20 euros per pupil just to board the coach.
Mr Malengela had planned three residential trips for the 2017 summer term, one of which was a trip to Paris. The teacher wrote to parents to say the £390 cost had gone up because of an “additional £20 refundable behaviour deposit to the Hotel Bon-Sejour”, but this fee had not been agreed by the tour operator or the school.
The misconduct panel said that Mr Malengela’s actions were “calculated and deliberate” and that his conduct “fell short of the expected standards of the profession”.
