Doctor Who Experience

Doctor Who Experience

Cardiff is indisputably the home of Doctor Who. The series is filmed on location in and around the city as well as at the new BBC Studios in Cardiff Bay. Just next door, the Doctor Who Experience has brought the Doctor home, making Cardiff the perfect choice for a Doctor Who themed break, ideal for fans of any age. And if you don't believe us, here's Matt Smith to tell you what he loves about Cardiff.

This interactive journey takes you and the Doctor on a spectacular adventure through time and space. Step though a crack in time and help the Doctor, armed with his Sonic Screwdriver to escape from his foes, fly the TARDIS and come face-to-face with some of the scariest monsters seen on screen including Daleks, Cybermen and Sontarans. Featuring exclusive filmed sequences with Matt Smith and packed with amazing special effects, this multi-sensory experience is fun for the family and fans alike.

After your action-packed journey with the Doctor, there is so much more to see and explore. The world's most extensive collection of original Doctor Who props and artefacts includes the entire collection of Doctors’ iconic costumes from 1963 to the present day; the David Tennant TARDIS set and the Doctors arch foes through the ages.

Recent additions include props and costumes from the 50th Anniversary special ‘The Day of the Doctor’ and Matt Smith's final Episode 'The Time of the Doctor' including Zygons, Timelords, the three Doctors' Police Boxes, Cyber Head “Handles” and items from the street scenes of Christmas town.

A little know fact is that the real creator of the Daleks, writer Terry Nation, was born in Llandaff in Cardiff, close to Llandaff Cathedral and the film location of Amy Pond’s home village of ‘Ledworth’. A blue plaque was unveiled in his honour at the house in Cardiff where he was born in 2013.
