The Deep (Aquarium)

The Deep is one of the most spectacular aquariums in the world and is home to a whopping 3,500 fish including Europe’s only pair of green sawfish, spectacular sharks and rays and NEW FOR 2014 - a colony of Gentoo penguins.

Located in Hull The Deep tells the amazing story of the world's oceans through stunning marine life, fun interactives and audio-visual presentations making it a fun-filled family day out for all ages. As an education and conservation charity, The Deep is dedicated to informing visitors about the world’s oceans and the challenges they face.

Schools

Every year, The Deep welcomes over 30,000 primary and secondary pupils to our purpose built Learning Centre. An educational visit consists of an educational workshop relevant to your pupil's Key Stage, time in The Deep visitor attraction, secure storage baskets for personal items and a lunch area if required.

There will be a very exciting start to 2014, with the arrival of a colony of Gentoo penguins, who have taken up residence in the Kingdom of Ice. And we are delighted to tell you that we will be the only aquarium in the North of England to have these beautiful creatures.

To mark this fantastic arrival, our teachers have created a range of new ‘penguin themed’ workshops, encompassing topics such as threats to their habitat, climate change, ocean acidification, food chains and animal biology.

But if you would like to take part in some of our old favourites, don’t worry we have many others to choose from – simply see your Key Stage within the brochure. There is something to suit all ages and abilities and we would be delighted to see you enjoying a visit here.

Workshops, presentations and hands-on activities are delivered to groups from pre-school pupils to post sixteen by our team of experienced in house teachers. We cover a wide selection of topics including Science, Geography, English, Citizenship, Maths and for older students Marketing, Customer Care and Travel and Tourism.

Dive into exciting exhibits including our breath-taking coral reef at the Lagoon of Light, interesting creatures in our Slime exhibit, some of our biggest sharks in Endless Oceans and creatures of the Amazon in the Amazon Flooded Forest. The Learning Centre is sponsored by KC and provides first class facilities. KC has provided new laptops for use in the Learning Centre to help young visitors gain IT skills and improve their learning experience.

KC's partnership with The Deep is just one of many community partnerships that have been developed as part of the 'KC in the Community' programme. This aims to support the people, projects and organisations making Hull and East Yorkshire a better place to live, work and visit.
