Whimple Heritage Centre

Whimple Heritage Centre

The Whimple Heritage Centre is managed and maintained by an enthusiastic group of volunteers interested in Whimple's past and also its present. We are archiving today's information for historians of the future and committed to researching, recording and making available to anyone, via the Heritage Centre facility, information relating to the history of the village of Whimple, its people, customs, traditions, skills and trades.

The Society opened its Heritage Centre in May 2003 and has many thousands of photographs and artefacts connected with village life over the past 150 years. Our records are available to view and we are continuing our programme of digital accessibility.

Whimple Heritage Centre has three galleries. Two of these are dedicated to numerous artefacts and images portraying the history of life in Whimple up to the present. The third gallery contains a history of the Whiteway family and cyder making in Whimple and there is a touch-screen display area and a model of a cyder barn made by the late Brian Nicholls, a professional model maker who once lived in Whimple. A new building will house a further display devoted to rural industry. This is currently being developed but already houses a working cyder press and butter churn.
