Scottish Maritime Museum - Irvine
The Scottish Maritime Museum boasts a range of Scotland’s rich maritime collection.
The collection not only includes historic vessels, shipbuilding machinery, machinery tools, small vessels, canoes and lifeboats, but also personal items of socio-historic interest.
What makes a visit special to see these objects is their unique location: The Linthouse Engine Shop ‘Cathedral of Engineering’, a magnificent 19th century Grade A listed building.
A visit to our Irvine site also includes a tour to the Shipyard workers’ tenement flat, restored to its pre-1920’s appearance and a tour of our historic vessel, M.V.Kyles, moored at the Harbourside.
Educational trips not only provide a fascinating insight into Scotland’s vibrant social history, but also provides a an opportunity to see some of Scotland’s most beautiful nautical artefacts. As a nation, our maritime ties are deep-rooted, and it is by visiting the museum and all it has to offer, that we continue to keep the waves that Scotland made on history, industry and engineering for future generations.
