The Museum of Army Flying is home to a unique collection of military aviation history, one of both international and national importance. We give a fascinating and imaginative glimpse of “soldiers in the air” and life on the Home Front.
Come and see our amazing selection of historic fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft, detailed dioramas, artefacts, trophies and models which serve as a profound and inspiring tribute to the Army and their machines. There are a range of interesting and engaging activities for children to enjoy including Museum trails, puzzles, games and simulators.
Situated right alongside the Army Air Corps’ busy working airfield at Middle Wallop; visitors can often enjoy watching the Army Air Corps training in their impressive Apache and Lynx helicopters.

School Visits
The museum lends itself to educational visits in many ways. There are a variety of curriculum links that can be made, through history, science, technology, art and more. We are particularly well placed to offer tours in connection with World War II study, both on the Home Front with our 1940s style house, and from a military history perspective, with our unique collection of wartime aircraft. Whatever your requirements, we are able to offer off-the-shelf workshops or we are happy to develop bespoke learning packages to suit your needs at no additional charge.
Cost
School visits are £5.50 per pupil.
Supervising adults are free of charge, additional adults are £7.50 each.
There is no additional cost for workshops and activities run by the Education Officer.
Health and Safety
Risk assessment advice covering all public areas of the museum can be sent to schools prior to a visit. Activities run by the museum are fully risk assessed. Teachers are expected to also do their own risk assessment during their free pre-visit.
Booking a Visit
Booking Procedure

Contact the Education Officer to discuss your needs and to clarify any points.

If you agree a date for your visit you will be provisionally added to our diary. The Education Officer will also ask you to book a date for your free pre-visit to the museum. This is necessary to be able to discuss your visit, as well as for your own orientation and for Health and Safety.

You will be sent a booking form, which you must complete, sign, date and return to the Education Officer.

If you wish to cancel the booking please give the museum at least 7 days notice. If this does not happen the school may be charged up to 40% of the quoted cost.
Preliminary Visit
It is strongly advised that teachers find time to visit the museum prior to the school visit. Please contact the Education Officer. If the Education Officer is not available please advise reception staff when you will be visiting the museum.
