Stanton Park
Stanton Park
A local nature reserve and country park with a large lake and extensive woodland. A fairly wild sort place with natural features only, but a wonderful environment to explore, and free!
It is also the site of a Roman villa (although unfortunately there are no visible remains).
There is still a lot for the kids to see as the park provides an exceptionally wide range of habitats, such as:
-
Remnants of ancient woodland
-
Hedgerows
-
Wildflower meadows
-
Wetlands
-
A lake, streams and a series of recently restored ponds
-
Over 900 species of fungi
-
A mixture of mature, specimen hardwood trees
There is also a large variety of wildlife to keep an eye out for such as birds of prey, bats, deer, invertebrates, badgers and wildfowl. So there are plenty of ducks and swans for the kids to feed.
The park is also suitable for wheelchair access and there is a surfaced circular route around the lake. It may be a good idea to bring your wellies as it can get quite muddy.
