Alnwick Castle is brimming with history to be discovered, offering a range of activities and tours for groups and school visits alike, as well as a host of group benefits.

The castle has provided the backdrop for many famous films and TV series such as Blackadder, Downton Abbey and of course Harry Potter.

School Trips

Storm the castle's barbican, master your broomstick and make medieval crafts on a school visit full of history.

Dressing up, medieval crafts and games in the Knight's Quest arena are all included in admission! Also included is access to the sumptuous State Rooms, filled with remarkable art and furniture, and the fascinating museums within the castle's walls.

We can tailor our workshops and tours to Key Stages 1-4 or choose one our specially-designed school activities – all developed with the different key stages in mind and designed to enhance your visit.

Knight's Quest

Dress up as knights and ladies with our costumed interpreters, before trying your hand at medieval crafts and games

Broomstick Training 

Master your broomstick with our wizard professors, on the very spot of Harry's first lesson!

Storming the Barbican

Take part in a bloody battle for the borders! Defend the castle's inhabitants in a ferocious battle in the formidable fortified gatehouse.

Scriptorium 

Try your hand at the medieval art of medieval illumination and handle replica tools and examples from a 15th century Book of Hours.

Battleaxe to Broomsticks Tour 

Enjoy an entertaining tour of the castle's grounds with a costumed guide, including stories of Harry Hotspur and behind-the-scenes anecdotes from the Harry Potter films.

Medieval Games 

Enjoy a sports day - medieval style! Can you hit the bullseye, strike the most blows in the fencing arena or get a strike on the skittles?
