Bristol Cathedral
Bristol Cathedral
Bristol Cathedral is full of rich learning opportunities for children of all ages. Our aim is to engage children with the past as we explore the history of this amazing building; with the present as we show them how the Cathedral impacts lives today; and with the future as we consider together how we can grow and develop as individuals and as a community.
Our Education Guides have a great deal of experience showing children the marvellous features of our Cathedral, as well as teaching them about how the Cathedral is used in worship. Tours of Bristol Cathedral can be general, or specific to the learning needs of your class. Our Education Officer will liaise with teachers regarding the best content for each visit so that we can do our best to support the learning happening in the classroom.
We run a number of trails in which we take children on a tour of the Cathedral, focusing on specific themes depending on the focus on their visit. We can also provide an accompanying workshop with an activity linked to the theme. We can cater for up to 60 children in these sessions. Themes include:
- Art in Religion
- The Tudors
- Signs & Symbols
- Places of Worship
- Special Places
- Anglican and Catholic worship
- Monastic times
We offer a number of interactive workshops including stained glass windows, glass painting, sculpting clay patterns, illuminated letters and timeline travels.
For senior schools we can provide a tailor made visit to suit the exam syllabus studied also offer or Q&A sessions with a member of the clergy if they are available.
The cost of a tour and a workshop of your choice is £3 per child. This usually lasts 2 hours.
