French Brothers Boats on the Thames
French Brothers Boats on the Thames
French Brothers offer a variety of cruises on the River Thames from Windsor and Runnymede. The two most popular trips from Windsor are the 2 hour round trip and the 40 minute round trip, both are available daily.
The Windsor two hour trip passes through a lock, making it a very educational trip. This is particularly suitable for key stage 3 and 4 as well as overseas language students. A full commentary in English is provided covering all aspects of the trip, the sights, wildlife and history. Much of the trip passes historical sights such as Eton College as well as Windsor Castle. There are two sailings each day -13.30 and 14.30. A printed souvenir guide is also provided.
The Windsor 40 minute trip is available all day long making it perfect for groups packing a lot into their itinerary, or those who have limited time during the school day. Suitable for all children, but particularly good for younger children as 40 minutes will keep everyone’s attention. A full commentary in English is provided covering all aspects of the trip, the sights, wildlife and history. A printed souvenir guide is also provided. All passengers will benefit from the outstanding view of Windsor Castle which is best seen from the river.
Alternatively there is a 45 minute round trip from Runnymede. This takes place on the Lucy Fisher which is a replica of an African Paddle steamer. Trips are available all day. This trip cruises through Runnymede. In 1215 King John placed his seal on the Magna Carta at Runnymede and this trip will show children all of the historical sights – truly combining learning with fun. There is a special Magna Carta commentary in English.
These sights include:
- Magna Carta memorial
- John F Kennedy memorial
- Air forces memorial
- Runnymede Meads
- Ankerwycke Priory
- Ankerwycke Yew
- Magna Carta Island
The Lucy Fisher has level access to the boat which makes it ideal for disabled groups or groups that have disabled members. A printed souvenir guide is also provided.
Whilst all of the boats have soft drinks available to be purchased – we allow children to bring on their packed lunches and they are welcome to consume their lunches and drink on board.
Boat trips are fun and packed with educational value. With such big range of options available the boat trip can be fitted into almost any busy itinerary. With trips leaving frequently even if a school group find themselves early or late we can often accommodate their need for some flexibility.
Being on the boat that moves to take passengers to see the sights allows both teachers and student to have a rest – this is always welcome if there has been a lot of waking previously.
