13th/18th Royal Hussars (QMO) and Light Dragoons Museum
The Light Dragoons has one Regimental Museum. 'A Soldier's Life', The Light Dragoons (The 15th/19th King's Royal Hussars) Museum, is at Discovery Museum, Newcastle upon Tyne. This Grade II listed building houses a number of diverse and interesting collections which, together with a changing programme of exhibitions, ensure an interesting and informative visit whatever your background or interests.
The gallery which houses the collections of the 15th/19th The King's Royal Hussars and the Northumberland Hussars, was an award winner when launched in 1995. It underwent a total transformation as part of the Discovery Museum's £12.5 million redevelopment. The gallery re-opened its doors in February 2003.
The gallery takes a social history approach, which concentrates on the soldier rather than on campaigns or the hardware of war. It is both an explanation of the role of the soldier and a commemoration of Regimental achievements. Displays include the home front during World War II and a section on The Light Dragoons.
The Regimental Museum of the 13th/18th Royal Hussars (QMO) and The Light Dragoons at Cannon Hall Museum, Cawthorne, near Barnsley, has now closed. In Spring/Summer 2017 a new, redeveloped gallery will open at Discovery Museum, Newcastle.
