Barrow Hill Roundhouse

Barrow Hill Roundhouse

Britain's last surviving working Roundhouse

Whatever your memories of Britain’s railways you’ll be amazed at what you can see at Barrow Hill and its preserved Roundhouse.

Throughout each year the galas feature working steam and diesel locomotives, which are often joined by a variety of visiting steam and modern diesel locomotives off the main line.

On special event days train rides are available, pulled by either a steam or diesel locomotive from ‘Roundhouse Halt’, a purpose-built platform. Trains travel around the depot and up the Springwell branch. Trade stands, catering and a free bus service from Chesterfield railway station all go together to create a great day out.

Visitors by the thousand now make Barrow Hill's special events regular dates in their diary.
