Bristol ChemLabS CETL
Bristol ChemLabS (Bristol Chemical Laboratory Sciences) is a Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. Here at Bristol we know that chemistry is an exciting, evolving core science, central to the quality of modern life and that its health is dependent on a vibrant scientific education sector able to project and develop the subject.
The University of Bristol is working in partnership with local schools to inspire the next generation of researchers and enhance and enrich the school curriculum. The School-University Partnerships Initiative (SUPI), which is funded by Research Councils UK (RCUK), aims to:
- Support direct engagement between researchers and secondary school students
- Enable teachers to better access our resources and to work alongside our researchers
- Bring contemporary and inspirational research contexts into formal and informal learning
Read more about SUPI, including our aims and objectives - download the SUPI summary (PDF, 468kB) (PDF, 468kB) or visit our blog. For SUPI case studies, read our public engagement stories.
We also have a university-wide outreach programme, run by the University of Bristol UK Student Recruitment Office.
Activities
The three strands of this project focus on:
- School-led engagement; researching curriculum links around core concerns and CPD for teachers in research skills and/ or subject support.
- One-to-one mentoring, including the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) mentoring and EPQ library visit days
- Developing models of engagement; creating new opportunities and linking up schools with a variety of University events such as Bristol Bright Night, and the Thinking Futures festival.
