Bronte Parsonage

Bronte Parsonage

Visit the home of the famous literary Brontë sisters - Emily, Charlotte and Anne. The parsonage in which they grew up and wrote countless works in the 19th Century is beautifully preserved. Most famously the Dining Room where works such as Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre and Agnes Grey were written is just as the sisters would have known it. It was the sisters' habit to walk around the table until about eleven o'clock, reading and discussing their writing plans and projects.

You can also see where the sisters' father The Revd. Patrick Brontë carried out most of his parish business from this room, which he used as his study. In old age he was described as 'sitting in a plain, uncushioned chair, upright as a soldier' before the fire.

The most extensive Brontë collection in the world is housed in our exhibition room.

Library

The Brontë Parsonage Museum library contains the world's most comprehensive collection of Brontë manuscripts, letters, early editions of the novels and poetry, and secondary material on the famous family and their work.
