Set sail from Cardiff Bay on the 72-foot round-the-world yacht. Take the helm, hoist the sails and be part of the crew! It’s ideal for school groups, individuals, team development, corporate activity and parties. 

With no sailing experience necessary join us for a day sail, longer voyages to Lundy Island or an accredited sailing course.

Challenge Wales, a 72-foot round-the-world racing yacht is now an exhilarating opportunity for young people to experience, helping to broaden their horizons, develop their personal and social skills and improve their future employability.

The group will be involved in all aspect of sailing the boat while remaining in a safe, exciting and challenging environment.

SAILING OPPORTUNITIES

There are plenty of different ways you can get involved with Challenge Wales:

  • A variety of sailing trips tailored to your school or group
  • Taster trips available (approx 4 hours)
  • An adventurous activity – ideal for school activity weeks
  • Field trips with a difference – e.g. Geography, Physics, Maths, Environmental Studies
  • BTEC Diploma in Sport with Outdoor Education
  • Duke of Edinburgh's Award
  • Become a volunteer

THE VALUE OF SAIL TRAINING AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITY

  • Promotes the growth of group identity
  • Enables achievement and success
  • Places everyone on a level playing field
  • Develop thinking through planning and reflecting
  • Places young people in a stimulating natural environment
  • ..and remember, no sailing experience is necessary to take part.

USEFUL THINGS TO KNOW:

  • Wet weather clothing (Jackets and trousers) provided
  • Challenge Wales sails with up to 6 experienced crew on board
  • Food included (breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper, refreshments)
  • 18 berth accommodation
  • Up to 10 young people and two group leaders can join a trip

Your next step will be to a book a trip, there are some young people's trips already in the sailing schedule which you may wish to book (these are a mix of one, two, three and five day trips). Alternatively you can contact us with the days and type of trip you had in mind and we can book your trip in that way. Whether you book a young persons sailing trip in the schedule or you provide us with different dates you want… the cost will always be the same.

Ask us about Group Leaders/Teachers free boat preview visits. We are based in Penarth Marina near Cardiff Bay. If you want to visit us prior to booking then please make an appointment and let us know. We try to encourage this if you are not familiar with Challenge Wales but it is not always necessary.
