Dingle Oceanworld Aquarium

Most of us think of “fish” when we hear the word aquarium, here in Dingle Oceanworld Aquarium we like to do things a little differently! We already have Penguins since 2011 and new for this year we have our new Creepy Crawly exhibit. Who knows what will come for our 20th year anniversary next year!!!

Oceanworld Aquarium is committed to conservation and preservation of all marine and freshwater systems and their unique flora and fauna through education and research support.

Gentoo Penguins

Gentoo penguins are a very distinctive looking penguin, with a bright orange beak, white stripe over the head and lovely pink feet. They are the third largest penguin species in the world, reaching a height of between 70-90 cm.

We have 12 penguins who moved to Dingle in April 2011, from Oceanopolis in Brest, France; and Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland. They have all been captive bred and have settled in very well.

They eat a variety of fish, krill, squid and mussels, and feeding time is definately a must see event. They are fed at different times throughout the day, but you can always see them have their lunch at 2pm daily.

DPSM - Primary Learning at Oceanworld Aquarium

Marine life can be found in up to 99% of the habitable space on Earth, and makes up almost 80% of the planet's biodiversity. Our education programmes focus on the impact the marine world has upon us, and how we affect it.

We aim to introduce students to biodiversity and conservation. The idea that every living species is part of an interconnecting web of life, we aim to inspire and motivate them to get involved, raise awareness and to do what we can do to protect all our diversity.

We believe the best way to learn is to see and do - that's why we offer a range of tours and hands on activities to suit all age groups. If you're interested in bringing your group to Oceanworld, read on to find out more!

DPSM Activities – At a glance

A typical visit lasts two hours, but if you're pushed for time or would like to stay longer, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate your needs!

Your two hours will include an interactive tour of the aquarium, with the chance to get up close and personal whilst touching and holding a spider crab and starfish! Our interactive classroom science experiments focus on the three primary science subjects; Biology, Chemistry and Physics. We aim to turn science into a memorable and engaging experience.

The experiments range from making slime, global warming balloon explosions and squid dissections.

We are able to cater for all ages and abilities and we can tailor our activities to suit your requirements, such as with role playing and puppet show creation.
