Dublin Zoo

Dublin Zoo

Opened in 1831, Dublin Zoo is one of the world's oldest and most popular zoos. It has been transformed in recent decades into a 28 hectare park of gardens, lakes and wonderful natural habitats for over 400 animals.

Many are rare species and their survival in the wild is under threat so many of our animals are part of international breeding programmes for endangered species.

Dublin Zoo is home to animals from all around the globe.

Education

Zoo education is not simply about ‘saving the world’ but about developing an appreciation of the wonders of the world, nature and wildlife, and a sense of wanting to do something to help.  It’s about connecting with people’s beliefs and attitudes so that they want to live sustainably.

Dublin Zoo’s education department offers a range of exciting, interactive and structured educational programmes, workshops and resources, tailored to meet the specific needs of all learners.  Curriculum linked programmes for schools are offered throughout the year led by specialist teachers.
