Eyam Treasure Trail
Eyam Treasure Trail
A fantastically fun way to get out and explore the historic plague village of Derbyshire. Kids will get an understanding of history whilst solving the mystery of the lost treasure from days gone by. Adults get to share and help them in their learning and fun.
It explores the historically significant Derbyshire village of Eyam which is known as ‘the plague village’. Here in 1666 the occupants of the village decided to isolate themselves from the rest of the world when the plague broke out within the village. This act of sacrifice left a legacy which you and your children can explore today. Eyam Treasure Trail ensures you see everything in the village, with opportunities to stop and explore further as you go. The Trail starts and finishes near the museum, so should you wish to find out more than you already have: you should be able to at the museum.
The Trail is also designed to make learning fun and engaging, with many of the clues on this treasure hunt requiring children to work out what the answer might be, stimulating their desire to learn. At the end, they will have a sense of achievement at having completed a worthwhile task of locating hidden ‘treasure’ (please note, there is no real treasure hidden, merely a fictitious location of treasure on a map).
One thing is for real though, children will have great fun, in the outdoors, exploring and seeking the correct answer to a puzzle, all the time learning about an important episode in our history. The village is a very pretty village too.
