FSC Malham Tarn

FSC Malham Tarn is an excellent base for primary school trips. At Malham Tarn we offer opportunities in both fieldwork and adventurous activities for primary school children. From Literacy through landscape to wilderness bushcraft designed to encourage problem solving and teamwork. We aim to inspire primary school children, hoping they will come away with a passion for the environment just like all members of our team.We do this by immersing them in the natural world, taking in sights, sounds, and smells and making sure they get their hands dirty.

Malham Tarn centre is in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, it occupies a large Georgian country house, leased from the National Trust.  The Tarn close by is an unusual lime-rich upland lake, set amid a variety of habitats with a range of nationally-scarce species. The Tarn and its associated wetlands and woodlands form a National Nature Reserve. The Field Centre offers a wide range of different topics that can be selected to form a tailor-made progressive course of any length to suit the needs and requirements of individual learners and schools.

The topics have been designed to have strong links across the KS3 curriculum and support the ‘Every Child Matters’ outcomes. As well as exploring different aspects of learning about the environment, each course has a strong emphasis on developing personal confidence and team-building skills and includes activities to encourage cultural appreciation, artistic development and physical wellbeing.
