Golders Hill Park Zoo

Golders Hill Park Zoo

Golders Hill Park’s landscaped grounds contain beautiful plant displays including the peaceful Mediterranean and water gardens, a popular café and a bandstand.

Zoo

Golders Hill Park is home to a free zoo, with a growing collection of rare and exotic birds and mammals such as laughing kookaburras, ring-tailed lemurs and ring-tailed coatis.

It is one of only two free zoos in London registered with BIAZA, the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

The zoo plays an important role in the interpretation and education of the habitats and wildlife of Hampstead Heath.

The zoo is open whenever the park is open.

Butterfly House

The Butterfly House allows close-up views of beautiful tropical species and the study of the life cycle of these fascinating insects.

Opening Hours

  • Saturday 28 March 2015 - Sunday 1 November 2015: 2pm - 4pm every day
  • Monday 2 November 2015 - Spring 2016: CLOSED

Walled Garden

The walled garden is being transformed to create a stunning and sustainable flower garden for the future. Our vision is to create a strong formal structure using a mix of evergreen topiary, hedging and trees which will provide a framework for colour provided by herbaceous planting, roses and grasses.

The new design will give a new unity and greater overall impact. Clipped ‘cubes’ of evergreen oak trees emerging from box ‘platforms’ will give an imposing architectural presence in winter. The evergreen oak links with the existing Mediterranean garden. New views will also be opened up.

Other Facilities

There is also a variety of leisure facilities including tennis courts, croquet lawn, all-weather table tennis tables, zoo and butterfly house and a children’s play area. Golders Hill Park was opened to the public in 1898 and has been managed as a discrete and historically important part of Hampstead Heath by the City of London since 1989.
