Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre

A fascinating insight into Grimsby's maritime history - Our Heritage

The museum is suitable for all ages, we also have an easy access route. Many interactive displays and get dressed up as a fisherman or apprentice boy.

Fishing has often been described as one of the toughest jobs in the world. So why not come along and find out for yourselves and sign up as a crew member and witness first hand on a journey of discovery at the Fishing Heritage Centre, Grimsby.

Bring along the whole family and navigate your way around Grimsby's Fishing Heritage Centre and discover what life was like for trawlermen and their families in the 1950s. Experience the sights, sound and smells of the times that follow visitors through the interactive displays.

Join the fishermen in the Freeman's Arms, come and experience the moving deck, visit the dockside shop and queue up for some fish and chips!

Get your ticket from the signing on desk and climb aboard the Ross Tiger trawler moored adjacent to the museum and listen to some of the tales that our trawler guides will entertain you with from their days at sea. (Some restriction may apply).

The museum is suitable for all ages, we also have an easy access route. Many interactive displays and get dressed up as a fisherman or apprentice boy.

Tom and the Trawler, our brand new children's series, created with East Coast Pictures, is now up and running on our new touch screen panels throughout the museum.

There are two exhibition rooms at the museum and both are free of charge, both are open during museum opening times.

We look forward to welcoming you.

The Ross Tiger

The Ross Tiger is an ex-working 1950's trawler. It was bought by North East Lincolnshire Council and cost a whopping £1. She came to the Museum in 1992 and is berthed at the back of the museum.

In Alexandra Dock, you will learn the ropes from former trawler men, John and Syd. They will entertain you with a tale or two of sea life and also take you on a journey of discovery where you will find out what life was like aboard. This is an experience not to be missed. Come on, Climb aboard!

Tours of the Ross Tiger are available 7 days a week and last about 45 minutes to an hour. You can book a tour by visiting the admissions desk inside the museum. The tours are now available all year round. All tours are subject to availability, weather conditions and some restrictions apply.

We advise that the tours may not be suitable for persons with certain mobility problems, those who suffer from vertigo and claustrophobia. Under 5s are not permitted on board due to Health and Safety Guidelines. Extra care must be taken on uneven decks, vertical ladders and high sills particularly during bad weather. In extreme weather conditions the trawler tours may be cancelled.

Please visit the Fishing Heritage Centre admissions desk to get your boarding passes for the tours.
