Historylinks Museum

Historylinks Museum

HISTORYLINKS is dedicated to the history of Dornoch and the surrounding area. It is the only VisitScotland 5 Star Museum in the Highlands and one of seven museums in Scotland to have gained this prestigious award. The permanent exhibition includes the Cathedral, feuding clans and Scotland’s last witch. Current displays show a golf professional’s workshop where Donald Ross honed his skills, an unusual insight of Andrew Carnegie at home in Skibo and unique films of The Dornoch Railway and Sutherland in 1950.There is much to involve children with puzzles, quizzes and dressing up. Starting from HISTORYLINKS is a trail around 16 historic sites with accompanying guide maps, booklets and audio CD’s in several languages. Primary and secondary school packs are available with teachers notes.

Schoolpacks

Historylinks Schoolpacks have been produced to support schools visiting the Historylinks Trail and Museum. The resource packs include a range of worksheets to help Primary & Secondary School pupils gain an understanding of the history of the Royal Burgh of Dornoch. They aim to fit in with the 5-14 National Guidelines for Environmental Studies.

The Historylinks Trail includes 16 sites of historic interest in and around Dornoch, eight of which are in the town centre and easily accessible to school parties. It is hoped that by visiting the town centre trail sites and completing the tasks on the worksheets, pupils will develop a knowledge and understanding of a number of historical developments that took place over the centuries in this small Highland town.

The schoolpacks contain a CD, worksheets and teacher's notes for both Primary and Secondary schools, as well as items common to both. The CD provides access to worksheets in both Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF format. Schools are free to print and copy these as required. The Word versions can be edited by teachers if required.
