House of Marbles

House of Marbles

House of Marbles are makers & purveyors of a world famous range of glass marbles, board games, classic toys, puzzles, pastimes & decorative accessories for the home and garden. We have been designing, making and selling fun and entertaining products since 1973, when our founder began making board games in his workshop to sell at local craft fairs.

At House of Marbles there are lots of fascinating things to do. Here is just a taster of what you will experience.

Glass Making: With a bird's eye view from our gallery you can watch our highly skilled craftsmen at work. Watch as the molten glass is shaped, blown, moulded, pinched and cut into amazing pieces of glass.

Glass Museum: Explore the 4,000 year history of glass, learn how glass is made and view what craftsmen have made over the centuries.

Pottery Museum: Look through the history of Bovey Tracey Pottery. Brian is currently doing some reach on William Cookworthy Porcelain, it is an in-depth study and any information is welcome

Marble Museum: Browse the vast historic collection of marbles and read the in-depth explanations of how marbles have been made throughout the years.  We have one of every marble which has been in our range.

Games Museum: Step back in time and look through the collection of board games, marble games and bagatelles from the early 1600's.  You may spark a childhood memory with some popular classics.

Marbles Runs: Press the buttons and watch the marbles travel through the metal runs.  Four can be found in the museum areas and then see 'Snookie' the largest marble run in the United Kingdom and possibly the world! All of these are handmade by Alex Schmid.
