Lyme Park House
Lyme Park House
Welcome to Lyme Park. Nestling on the edge of the Peak District, Lyme Park was once home to the Legh family and, in its heyday a great sporting estate.
Step back in time to the Edwardian era - Lyme's 'Golden Era'. Enjoy lavish interiors, try out the piano, marvel at our vast clock collection, browse an original 1487 edition of William Caxton's first two-colour book Missale ad Usum Sarum, or take the children to dress up on the stage. Delicate items restrict the opportunities for photography but the stage in the Long Gallery can be used to take pictures of visitors of all ages in fabulous fancy dress.
The 1,300 acre estate with its medieval herd of red and fallow deer offers fantastic walks and stunning views.
For a more tranquil walk explore the Edwardian rose garden, ravine garden or luxurious herbaceous borders next to the reflecting lake where a certain Mr Darcy met Miss Bennett in the BBC production of 'Pride and Prejudice'.
School visits
Lyme offers a wonderful range of learning experiences for your nursery, school or college. Learners of all ages can enjoy magical Lyme Park on self-guided visits, whilst primary learners can enjoy a range of facilitated sessions.
Focus on Wildlife
Den building, nature walks and deer-spotting help children to get closer to nature and explore the park.
History Comes Alive
Engage and inspire with hands-on sessions such as: 'Meet the Tudors', 'Victorians at Home' and 'Victorian Christmas'. Discover why the Legh Coat of Arms features a figure with its arm chopped off (in recognition of Sir Thomas Danyers, a maternal grandfather of the first Sir Piers Legh, saving the Black Prince's colours at the Battle of Crecy by chopping off the arm of the frenchman who had captured them)... and why all the butler staff were called 'James' (simply because it was easier to remember their names)!
Time for Toys
Little ones love 'Time for Toys' where play and creativity help make learning accessible to all.
