Northumberland College is the largest provider of further education training courses in Northumberland with centres in Ashington, Ponteland Newcastle, Hexham and Berwick. We provide apprenticeships, full-time and part-time courses, employability and higher education training courses from Entry Level to Degree Level in a wide range of subject areas. We also provide training to employers across the North East region.

Animal Care and Work Experience

Working with animals is an extremely rewarding vocation that requires a high level of skill, training and dedication.

There are many career opportunities in expanding animal related industries including veterinary surgeries, kennels and catteries, zoos, breeding, retail management, animal sanctuaries and marketing animal products.

Whether you're already working in this sector or would like to begin a career caring for animals, we have training ranging from entry level courses, right through to higher education. Our animal care courses lead to a variety of job opportunities in the industry and can offer progression onto university courses.

Our tourist attraction Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens provides an excellent learning environment for our college students. You will learn to work in and manage a realistic environment and there are plenty opportunities to practice customer care as well as showcasing industry knowledge to the public.
