Rochester Cathedral

Rochester Cathedral

The Dean & Chapter of Rochester welcome family groups, school children and students of all ages, abilities, cultural and religious backgrounds to learn about this historic centre of Christian worship.

The Education Department at Rochester Cathedral is responsible for arranging and supporting over 15,000 British and foreign student visits to the cathedral each year in connection with their curriculum studies or enrichment programmes. A number of curriculum subjects across the key stages may be addressed during a visit to the cathedral, and many teachers also arrange a visit to Rochester Castle or Guildhall Museum to further enhance the learning outcomes for their pupils and students. Special schools are catered for with programmes designed specifically to match the needs of students.

The workbooks and workshops offered by the Cathedral Education Department are related to National Curriculum requirements and, for R.E., the requirements of the Locally Agreed R.E. Syllabi for surrounding areas. Although R.E. and history are often the main subjects studied during a visit to the cathedral, we offer programmes which also cover many other curriculum areas such as art, design, architecture, citizenship, science and literacy.
