SWEP: Paignton Zoo

With more than two thousand exotic animals from across the globe and two on-site nature reserves, Paignton Zoo Environmental Park is an exciting and inspirational place for all ages to learn more about the world’s wonderful biodiversity through environmental education.

Clear signage across the site provides information about our plants, animals, conservation projects and environmental practices, while a choice of trails and activity packs can give a topic focus to your visit. Over the warmer holiday periods, visitors can pop into the Discovery Centre to experience a range of hands-on environmental learning activities and children can join our popular Summer School. While, across the year we run a number of club activities, adult classes, day experiences and events.

The Zoo, nature reserves and purpose-built Education Centre collectively provide a fantastic, immersive learning environment, experienced by almost 50,000 students each year. The Education Department has been an established conservation education provider for nearly 60 years and is staffed by a team of professional Zoo Education Officers with specialisms from Early Years up to Post-16, catering for learners of all ages and abilities and providing a stimulating, cross-curricular programme, linked to National Curriculum objectives.
