Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital

Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital

A place to learn about the specialist wildlife work done by the hospital and to meet some of the rescued animals. Activities and Talks held during school holidays.

Kids can find out about how they either release animals back to the wild when they are fit, or gives them a home if not.

Information is provided in a variety of formats and there is an educational trail to follows which takes you around the gardens, past the pond and to the deer paddocks. This is a great opportunity for kids to discover some of Britain’s elusive wildlife and get an insight into their treatment.

There are a large variety of habitats to explore, which are the homes to animals such as hedgehogs, rabbits and deer. These include a rockery, waterfall and a bog pond for amphibians.

The kids can also go inside and visit two of the busy hospital wards, both of which have viewing windows so they can see some of the patients being cared for without disturbing them. There is a bone exhibition to see, plus a live link to their Xray suite to allow you to look at variety of xrays that have been taken.

The Visitor Centre is open to everyone to provide education and information on our specialist work. Through the use of interpretation boards, leaflets and videos, visitors can learn about the history of the Hospital, the type of animals we treat and some of the innovative techniques we employ.

The educational trail takes you around the gardens, pond and to the deer paddocks, allowing you to discover some of our elusive British wildlife, along with information about the species you will see plus an insight into their treatment by our specialist veterinary team.

This sanctuary area gives the wild animals who cannot be returned to the wild a chance to live a near natural, but protected life. We have a large variety of habitats for a vast range of animals, from the large pond for our water birds (plus many visiting birds); numerous gardens for hedgehogs, rabbits and many other creatures; large paddocks for our deer; a bog pond for the amphibians, plus a rockery, water fall, butterfly garden and flight aviaries.

Our large Red Kite flight aviaries are home to numerous red kites and a couple of ravens too. You can see these magnificent creatures up close, watch them swoop around and in the Red Kite Information Centre you can find out some more about these majestic birds.

If you want a quiet area for contemplation, then visit our beautiful Remembrance Garden where we have a permanent memorial to those animal lovers that decided to make a bequest to benefit wildlife.
