Tilgate Park
Tilgate Park
Tilgate Park has so much to offer from stunning lakes, lawns and gardens to miles of woodland and bridleways for long leisurely walks. As well as all this Tilgate Park also boasts some excellent facilities:
Both Tilgate Nature Centre and Go Ape Tilgate Park are located here.
The Lake
All lake based activities, including fishing and boating in Tilgate Park, are managed by Dynamic Adventures.
Walled Garden and Cafe
Historically the Walled Garden formed part of the original Tilgate Estate and cultivated fruit, vegetables and herbs for the gentry. Since then it has undergone many transformations. Today the Walled Garden is a fantastic leisure facility with a café, a picnic area, a maze and many themed gardens for you to enjoy.
Dogs
Dogs are allowed off lead in the park so long as the owner has them in sight, can bring them to heel at any time and they do not cause a nuisance to other park users.
Dogs are excluded from the Nature Centre, Walled Garden and play area.
Play Area
Tilgate Play Area has lots of adventure play equipment for children of all ages, making the park with its sweeping lawns for picnics and other activities an ideal family day out.
Tilgate Forest Golf Centre
Adjacent to the park is the Golf Centre which makes the most of its beautiful surroundings, incorporating trees and other natural features into its design.
History and Conservation
Tilgate Park has had a long and varied history from the discovery of dinosaur bones through to use in the 17th century iron industry to becoming a palatial estate to being use by Sir Malcolm Campbell for flotation trials prior to his water speed world record!
