Treasurer's House, York
Treasurer's House, York
Only a few metres from York Minster, this was the first house ever given to the National Trust complete with a collection - and it is not all that it first seems.
It has a history spanning 2,000 years, from the Roman road in the cellar to the Edwardian servants' quarters in the attics, and thirteen period rooms in between.
These house one man's remarkable collection of antique furniture, ceramics, textiles and paintings from a 300-year period.
Infamous ghost stories are another of the many quirky attributes of this property.
Tours
Arrive early to get one of the limited tickets to join a special tour in the attic or the cellars. It's here Roman soldiers were heard and spotted. There are selected events throughout the year including music and theatre in the house and garden.
Gardens
The Garden is free to enjoy on open days and located in the shadow of York Minster it arguably has one of the best views in the city. Take time out during your visit to the house or spend a quiet half hour when you're in the city with just the bees & the bells for company.
