Wakefield Cathedral

The Learning Department at Wakefield Cathedral covers a wide area of work.  We often run workshops and visits for schools, uniformed organisations and community groups. We run family activities during holidays and weekends both in our own buildings and out in the community.  We facilitate quiet days and groups for women and asylum seekers. We organise exhibitions and Art Walk nights and put on a programme world music concerts and workshops throughout the year. We regularly put on events to support International Women's Day, Refugee Week, Black History Month and Holocaust Memorial Day. 

We are a creative and lively department who aim to encourage inclusivity and celebrate diversity.

A visit to Wakefield Cathedral or the Chantry Chapel is so much more than simply visiting a local land-mark! The HALO (heritage, arts, learning and outreach) team will do their best to make your visit extraordinary. A combination of the WOW factor engendered by our beautiful historic buildings, the awesomeness of the holy space, and the creativity at the heart our workshops, make a trip to Wakefield Cathedral a unique and unforgettable experience. 

Workshops are led by creative practitioners Ali Bullivent and Tracey Yates, who are experienced teachers and also work as professional artists. You may also see visiting teachers, artists and volunteers working as part of the HALO team. 

Our school activities are designed to meet National Curriculum programmes of study and reflect Ofsted guidance for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

There are always plenty of opportunities for pupils to ask questions, make connections, explore ideas and reflect on their learning.
