Ellen Terry's early 16th-century house and cottage gardens

Built in the early 16th-century when Smallhythe was a thriving shipbuilding port, Smallhythe Place was purchased by renowned Victorian actress Ellen Terry in 1899.

Her daughter Edith Craig set up the museum in 1929 which is home to a fascinating personal and theatrical collection which highlights Ellen Terry's extraordinary career and unconventional personal life.

Smallhythe Place includes a cottage garden and a charming 17th-century thatched Barn Theatre which provides an opportunity to attend a show with a regular programme of talks and shows.

Remains of early 13th-century castle, built beside the River Monnow to command one of the main routes from England.

A circular keep dominating a rectangular ward, with a round tower at each corner - constructed by Hubert de Burgh probably between 1219 and 1232. One of the 'Three Castles' held in common ownership, with  Grosmont and White Castle.

This is an unstaffed open site, so there's no booking required!

Still lived in by the Strickland family, Sizergh has many tales to tell and certainly feels lived in, with centuries-old portraits and fine furniture sitting alongside modern family photographs.

Kiftsgate Court Gardens was created in the 1920s and is a beautiful place to take the family with a lot of plants to see and enjoy - perfect for garden lovers with lots of space for the kids to run around.

Perched on a cliffside at the edge of the Cotswolds, it has a large variety of roses, trees and other plants to look at. Please be aware that some of the paths will be uneven, plus there are steps so some areas will be unsuitable for pushchairs or those unsteady on their feet.
