A 15-year-old boy fell 60ft over the edge of a cliff whilst on a geography school trip, miraculously only suffering minor injuries.
The schoolboy was posing for a photo in Old Harry Rocks in Dorset at the time. Five rescue teams rushed to the beauty spot — including Swanage and St Albans Coastguard teams, both Swanage RNLI Lifeboats, Dorset Police, South Western Ambulance, and a Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Critical Care team.
They found that the boy had landed on shingle and was not severely injured. Fortunately, he had only sustained a small cut to his head and a few scratches on his back. After a thorough examination, the pupil was released back to his group.
Even though the pupils on the school trip had been briefed about not going near the cliff edge, adult supervision was still needed.
Handsam would like to remind and advise clients about the importance of supervising pupils during their downtime and free time on school trips as well as during actual school trip activities.
