Banned From Trip

A young schoolgirl hit the headlines in July 2014 when she was banned from a school trip as she had time off school to attend her mother's funeral.

Maddie Stevens was barred from the trip because she did not have a 100% attendance record and the trip was specifically aimed as a reward at those children who had attended every day of the school year as part of a drive to improve attendance, as so many schools across the country have been attempting to do.

But because Maddie had been to the funeral of her mother Gail, who had sadly passed away from cancer in January 2014, she was not selected to go on the 'special treat' trip to Frankie & Bennie's restaurant.

But eventually Head of St Giles Junior School, Anne Parry, admitted that this was a mistake on the school's part.
