Football Fever

With the Euros now in full swing where could you take your class to experience football fever and learn something new? HandsamSchoolTripsAdvisor looks at the top five football themed destinations in the UK.

1. The National Football Museum in Manchester opened in 2012 and contains several floors of memorabilia and interactive experiences. Situated in the centre of the city, you can see the ball from the 1966 World Cup final and the shirt that Maradona wore when he hit home that infamous hand ball. Enjoy a penalty shoot out and test your defensive skills in the games on level two and walk through the history of the beautiful game in England on level one, plus much more. Admission is FREE.

2. Why not visit the city of the champions? Learn about the ultimate underdog story of Leicester City through a tour of the King Power Stadium. The New Walk Museum and Art Gallery Leicester is hosting a FREE exhibition entitled Fearless Foxes, which retraces the journey of a club tipped for relegation to the title. The city is hosting a variety of events to celebrate their legendary status from fun days hosted by local youth teams to talks on the women’s game and the perspective of fans.

3. The Museum of Liverpool contains an exhibition exploring the age old rivalry of the three Merseyside teams. Located on the waterfront beside the liver building, this striking purpose built building commands great views over the Mersey and is FREE.

4. Glasgow’s Hampden Park hosts Scotland’s National Football Museum, including a hall of fame and a stadium tour. See the Scottish National Cup, the world’s oldest national trophy and relive the greatest goals of a nation.

5. This is a monumental year for Welsh football as the national team enter an international competition for the first time since 1958. Traditionally a rugby city, Cardiff is going all out for football this summer by erecting a HD screen in Cooper's Field Bute Park for fans to watch their team go for glory. Called the Fanzone, the area will host live music, a fairground, charity events and football activities around the matches and is FREE.
