How to Succeed in Planning Residential Trips

Learning Away is a website dedicated to encouraging schools to provide high quality residential experiences for their students. They have previously worked closely with over 60 primary, secondary and special schools in 13 partnerships across the UK in developing, piloting and evaluating the impact of residential experiences.

Learning Away has produced advice and extensive planning tools to assist schools and residential providers in designing their own residential learning programmes. They have also published evaluation reports detailing the findings from the residential trips of the 13 school partnerships, with key recommendations for schools and providers.

Their website includes a number of case studies of residential trips, detailing both successes and failures that others can learn from. You may also wish to make use of their model for lower cost residential trips. It is a fantastic website and will hopefully calm those of you fearful of residentials!

If you are planning a residential trip for the next school year but are stuck for ideas on where to go, HandsamSchoolTripsAdvisor has an extensive venue list, including many residential venues. Handsam can help you organise safe but exciting school trips in a multitude of ways – please see here for details.
