The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Gardeners of the Year 2018 competition is now open for entries! The RHS are looking for the most inspirational young gardeners, educators and gardens teams that the UK has to offer. Prizes include a greenhouse worth over £3,000, garden tools, £500 in vouchers and unique opportunities to work with RHS and TV gardeners. There are three categories in the competition: RHS Young School Gardeners of the Year, RHS School Gardening Champion of the Year and RHS School Gardening Team of the Year.
RHS Young School Gardeners of the Year
If you know somebody aged 5-16 who demonstrates a true passion for gardening, shows invaluable gardening skills and has made an outstanding contribution to their school and the local community, you can nominate them for RHS Young School Gardener of the Year. Nominees must be in attendance at a school registered to the RHS Campaign for School Gardening, which you can register for here. RHS School Gardening Champion of the Year
Do you know an inspiring garden educator who encourages young people to get involved in gardening? Why not nominate them for RHS School Gardening Champion of the Year 2018? They can be a teacher, gardening club leader or volunteer who drives the inclusion of gardening at your school and is good at linking gardening to the curriculum. Nominees must be an adult (over 18) who works or volunteers at a school registered to the RHS Campaign for School Gardening and must be nominated by another adult. RHS School Gardening Team of the Year
Dedicated teams of young people who deserve to have their work in the garden celebrated can be nominated for the RHS School Gardening Team of the Year 2018. The RHS are looking for an outstanding gardening team aged 5-16 that has made a difference to their school environment. Entries for all the categories close at 5pm on Wednesday 25th April 2018, so get nominating as soon as you can! If gardening isn’t currently part of your school environment or curriculum, you may wish to explore the RHS Campaign for School Gardening website for inspiration and think about registering to the campaign. On joining, you will receive a free welcome pack and support to develop a sustainable garden for young people’s learning, health and wellbeing. Gardening at school is a brilliant and affordable way of getting pupils learning outside the classroom and will set them up with invaluable skills for life.
