Malignant melanoma cases are increasing at a highly significant and worrying rate. It is the most serious form of skin cancer and these cases are mainly caused by overexposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Young people’s skin is particularly vulnerable to damage from the sun, and unfortunately over exposure to UV rays can lead to skin cancer later in life.
For these reasons it is important for children to wear sun protection at school and for schools to have a Sun Protection Policy in place. Schools also have a duty of care to ensure that sun protection is provided whilst pupils are on school premises during school hours or undertaking school activities.
Handsam are proud to support the Outdoors Kids Sun Safety Code, the first accredited sun protection initiative designed specifically for outdoor activity leaders.
The Outdoor Kids Sun Safety Code is a resource bank and accreditation scheme designed to help individuals and organisations to be better equipped to protected children in their care from the harmful effects of the sun.
