St Edmundsbury Cathedral
St Edmundsbury Cathedral
The Cathedral is open to visitors every day from 8.30 a.m.to 6.00 p.m. throughout the year. Entry is free but we suggest a donation of £3.00 per adult and 50p per child. Visitors are welcome to look around the Cathedral on their own. A free introductory leaflet is available in English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, and Polish. Visitors are most welcome to attend any of the daily services.
A full colour children's leaflet is available. Young visitors can now find out about the story of St Edmund, told in cartoon-strip style, as well as searching for animals and mystery objects in the windows and statues of the Cathedral. There is a space for children to design their own stained glass window and complete a word search. Pick up a copy as you enter the building.
American Connections: Suffolk is the home county of Bartholomew Gosnold, who captained the Godspeed, one of the three ships which made the journey in 1606/07 to the New World. St Edmundsbury Cathedral was pleased to be involved in the celebrations in 2007 to mark the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, Virginia.
Regular Guided Tours run from April to September. Occasionally a tour may have to be cancelled if another event is taking place in the Cathedral. These tours last approx 30 minutes and a free of charge. They are not suitable for groups, who should pre-book a tour with the PR Manager on 01284 748726 or pr.manager@stedscathedral.org
The Lady Chapel is set aside for quiet prayer, lighting a candle or leaving a prayer request.
The Cathedral's kneelers can be seen with thousands of others that are local, original and unique on www.parishkneelers.co.uk (insert 'Suffolk' into the search)
