Around 7,500 school children from across the south east of England performed to a sold-out crowd at the O2 arena on Friday, January 30 as part of ‘Young Voices’ - the world’s largest children’s choir.
They performed alongside artists Lucy Spraggan of X Factor fame and Liverpool boy band Mic Lowry. The concert was led by internationally acclaimed conductor David Lawrence.
The children performed various medleys, from pop, to Andrew Lloyd Webber, and even a tribute to South Africa. They also performed dance moves to go with the songs, taught by one of the country’s leading street dance teachers. Clever use of lights and the children’s torches created some spine-tingling effects when combined with the beautiful sound of the children’s voices.
This was a life-changing experience for the children: to be able to perform in one of the world’s greatest arenas where their idols perform regularly, with all their friends around them for support.
Young Voices combines the power of singing together as one, with accompaniment from a wide range of musicians and artists, to create an amazing performance.
Every year, schools across the country practise music in class with their teachers to prepare themselves to take part in these massive concerts. Over the years the children in the choir have performed with artists such as Alexandra Burke, Joss Stone, and Gary Barlow as well as raising over £1 million for Children’s charities such as CLIC Sargent.
With a full live band, backing singers and under the charge of internationally acclaimed conductor David Lawrence, every year Young Voices hputs on concerts at The O2 in London, The LG Arena in Birmingham, The Phones 4U Arena in Manchester, and the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield.
It makes for one of the most exciting and memorable musical experiences you can imagine.
