The School Travel Forum (STF) is a not for profit organisation of leading school tour operators that promotes good practice and safety in school travel. Supported by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom (CLOtC), they manage both member and non-member applications for the LOtC Quality Badge. The STF’s Safety Management Standards are the benchmark for all companies operating within the educational travel sector and reflect the requirements of the Quality Badge.
Their website includes a fantastic Teacher Toolkit containing an expanse of resources, from clear safety management steps for organising sports tours, to guidance on booking with overseas companies. The Toolkit also details the STF Safety Managements Standards that all members must implement as a minimum.
For those who need further convincing of the benefits of learning outside the classroom, the Toolkit delivers key arguments backed by research and external sources. ‘The Benefits of Outdoor Learning’ resource within the Research section and ‘Making the Case’ under White Paper Documents are particularly valuable.
