Submarine crew from HMS Victorious have donated £1,250 to Fountains Primary School; a special school for pupils aged 4-11 in Staffordshire. The generous donation will enable Year Six students to go on a residential trip, which for many will be their first night away from home. Head Teacher Nicola Price explained that “This money means that the children will be able to go on a residential trip just as their peers in mainstream education do”.
The crew explained that the money was raised whilst at sea for three months with 24 hour stationary bike rides on the submarine with crew members taking it in turns to do half an hour rides, as well as bake sales using the submarine’s small galley kitchen. They truly have proved that fundraising for school trips can be done in any form!
As we discussed last week on HandsamSchoolTripsAdvisor, residentials can have a life changing impact for young people and we hope the Year Six students have a fantastic time. Perhaps they can join Learning Away’s Brilliant Residentials Campaign!
