Basing House has a Museum with rooms dedicated to everyday life in the Tudor period and the Civil War as it happened here at the site.

School Visits

Basing House is the ideal site to learn about the Tudor times, the Civil War, and how one site has developed and changed over time. It can offer a rewarding cross-curricular experience that includes elements of not only History, but also Geography, Maths, Archaeology, Citizenship, Drama and much more.

We offer four programmes for schools that use the resources of  this unique site and link with the National Curriculum 2014. Our staff can also adapt sessions to focus on your particular learning objectives, whether it be an afternoon developing map-reading skills, or a morning talking to a Civil War soldier’s wife, there is something to suit every class.

Key Stage 2

For Key Stage 2 there are three programmes which all support the Local History Study or a study of an aspect or theme in British history that extends pupils’ chronological knowledge beyond 1066:

• Tudor Life
• Palace to Ruins: Tudor Life to Civil War in Hampshire
• Survivor in the Landscape: Basing House through Time*

* Survivor in the Landscape also supports KS2 Geography: Geographical skills and fieldwork, Human and physical geography and Location knowledge.

Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3 we offer ‘Civil War: History Makers’ which supports the Local History Study and the development of Church, state and society in Britain 1509-1745.
